Working for Design without Borders

Can I work for Design without Borders as a volunteer?

  • Design without Borders does not have any organised projects for volunteers. However, now and then there are still projects where it is possible to contribute. If you want to work for us on a volunteer basis, please send us your CV and a short cover letter on why you wish to work as a volunteer, how you can contribute and in which time period you can work. We keep these applications on file and get in touch if the need for volunteer work arises.

Can I apply for a job with Design without Borders?

  • Design without Borders advertises vacant positions about every second year. Norwegian designers can apply for positions in Uganda and Guatemala. Ugandan and Guatemalan designers can apply for positions in Norway. The vacancies are advertised through the universities in the south, on norskform.no, finn.no and through the newsletter of Norsk Form that you can subscribe to.

Interns for Norwegian companies

Can my company apply for an intern?

  • About every second year we look for Norwegian companies that want a designer from Uganda or Guatemala for about one year. The company has to have a clear need for a designer and the resources to follow-up the designer, both academically and socially. The designer's wages come through Design without Borders, but the cost of courses and daily operations must come from the company.

What competence do the designers from the south have?

  • Both in Uganda and Guatemal, the field of design is relatively young and unestablished. In some cases we also recruit architects and jewellery designers.
The participating designers partake in a three-week preparation course run by Fredskorpset and in a four-week Norwegian course.

Financing

Who finances the projects?

  • Design without Borders is a non-profit project that is financed by Norad, Fredskorpset and Norsk Form.
