Villa Stenersen

Welcome to Villa Stenersen

Villa Stenersen was designed in 1938 by architect Arne Korsmo.

Villa Stenersen is one of the main works of Norwegian Modernist architecture. The villa was planned as a private home for finance broker and art lover Rolf E. Stenersen and his family. Villa Stenersen is now a meeting place for the fields of architecture and design.

Architect Arne Korsmo

Villa Stenersen was designed in 1939 by Arne Korsmo, one of Norway's most renowned architects. Korsmo is known as an internationally oriented architect. Villa Stenersen is a clear example of how the architect interpreted and applied international architectural ideas of his time.

A house for art

As well as being a family home, the villa was home to the numerous works of art in Rolf Stenersen's collection of art. Korsmo's architectural solutions are to a great extent designed with regard to this, something which gives the house some of its unique characteristics. Today, contemporary artworks on loan from the private collection of Sten Stenersen jr. are displayed in the house.

Rolf Stenersen donated the villa to the Norwegian state in 1974. Since 2000, the Foundation for Design and Architecture in Norway, administers the use of the villa on behalf of the Norwegian Ministry of Culture.
